How to Get the Bell Tower Key

The Clock Tower is one of several levels that you’ll go through as you play Dead Cells and as you explore it you’re going to come across a locked door that requires the Bell Tower Key to unlock it. This key can be tough to acquire—depending on how well you know the level—and since the level changes each time, you may find yourself having to repeat it a few times to find the key and make it back to the door without dying.

Getting inside the door here will allow you to unlock the blueprint for the Punishment Shield, which is a very powerful item that reflects all incoming damage on nearby enemies, hitting them with a critical hit if the parry is successful. It’s an item worth having if you run with shields, and you should investigate grabbing it as quickly as possible.

In order to unlock the door that requires the Bell Tower Key, you’re going to need to get your hands on the key. This can be done by investigating the Clock Tower and finding the four bells that are scattered around the level. These bells might seem useless at first, but if you interact with them, you’ll get one of four tones from each one—each a little different in variation, like a series of notes slowly going higher and higher.

The goal with these bells is to hit them in order—from lowest to highest. You’ll need to be quick to do it, though, so map out where the bells are in your version of the level and then figure out which bells have the highest and lowest pitches. From there, activate them one by one. If you do it in the correct order, then you’ll be rewarded with the Bell Tower Key, which should just poof right out onto the ground. Scoop it up, then make your way back to the door in the Bell Tower and unlock it. Grab the Punishment Shield, and now all that’s left to do is make your way back to The Collector.
