All Details About Phasmophobia’s Spooky Summer Update, Including Reworked Map and New Ghost
A new ghost lurks on Willow Street!
Kinetic Games’ beloved indie horror Phasmophobia is hitting the next stop on its roadmap soon. Yet another hefty update is slated to drop at the end of July that brings with it plenty for players to enjoy while the game progresses towards its long-awaited 1.0 release next year.
Everything Included in the Phasmophobia July Update

Phasmophobia’s next big update, which is due to drop later in the month on July 21, is designated as a Quality of Life update (per the official roadmap). However, that’s not nearly all that players can expect, as there’s not only a newly reworked map to look forward to, but also yet another new ghost type.
First, the 13 Willow Street map is getting its full facelift, and Kinetic shared some screenshots of what players will see with the rework. Similar to other maps in the game that have gotten a rework, such as 6 Tanglewood Drive, there will also be a new map-related challenge for players to complete. Upon surviving at least 50 contract investigations at 13 Willow Street, players will earn the Sun Seeker ID and Badge, which features a distinctly vibrant, poolside aesthetic.

To further commemorate the new map overhaul, there will also be a limited-time Twitch Drops campaign that fans can participate in by watching at least 2 hours of qualifying Phasmophobia KG Partner streams. Doing so will net you the Cool Cat ID and Badge, of which there’s a static and animated version. This will only last a week from July 21 to July 28, 2026, so be sure not to miss it.
To make things even more exciting, there’s also a new ghost that will be added to the game with the update. Its name and traits have yet to be revealed, but it will appear frequently in player contracts during the “first few weeks following release”.

This Quality of Life update will also implement a few new UI features to help streamline gameplay while also addressing various issues that arose with the game’s previous Player Character update. Some of those new features and improvements will include:
- Keybinds for equipment slots that will allow players to switch equipment with keys instead of the mouse (only available for PC players)
- Highlight frame to indicate items or events on Photo Cameras, similar to the feature on Video Cameras
- Polished walking and turning animations for player characters
- Sweeping VR character improvements via an entirely new rig
- Streamlined item handling animations (e.g. – switching and manually picking up items)
What’s Still to Come in Future Phasmophobia Updates

While the July Quality of Life update is definitely an exciting one for players to look forward to, it’s still one of many to come in the game’s ongoing development roadmap. The game is still working towards its 1.0 release, which has now been pushed back to sometime next year in tandem with its release on the Nintendo Switch 2.
In the meantime, the roadmap indicates that a second Quality of Life update will follow up in August, though there are no details yet on what that will specifically entail. Later in October, the game will get brought “up-to-date with Unity 6”, alongside the annual Crimson Eye in-game event.
November will bring the Player Character Visual Update, which promises improvements to the character models along with “a host of new customisation options”, meaning an expanded wardrobe and perhaps even more options in terms of accessories. In December, a rework of the 42 Edgefield Road map is expected, along with the annual Winter’s Jest event. Meanwhile, more original maps like Nell’s Diner haven’t gotten any teases just yet.
