Quartz is one of the hardest early resources to find in Subnautica 2. They are used for so many things, such as crafting the Scanner, storage, and several base-building structures.

Here’s a short guide on where you can find these Quartz early in your Subnautica 2 playthrough.

Where to Get Quartz in Subnautica 2

When you start in your Lifepod, you are free to explore however you want, but as it usually goes, you want to roam around close to your pod. You don’t really have access to a map, and you only have a marker/indicator of where your Lifepod is. So, to avoid being lost early, just explore around the map first.

When you start exploring around 10-200m around your Lifepod area, look for the Coral Domes. They look orange, so they are easy to find, but you might struggle a bit harder when it is nighttime. Go to one of these Coral Domes and look inside. Look around the outer part of the dome (inside) and look for some Quartz attached to the coral.

These quartzes should look like tiny, pickable rocks, and they might blend well with the dome’s color, so you want to get in there to really find them. You should find several Quartz per Coral Dome, so it should be easy to get. However, the hard part is sustaining enough Quartz because these are used for several things, especially early in the game.

Here are some of the items that need Quartz early, including recipes that require Glass (purely made out of Quartz):

  • Scanner – 2x Titanium, 2x Quartz, and 1x Basic Battery
  • Glass – 2x Quartz
  • Distraction Flare – 1x Titanium and 1x Quartz
  • Habitat Builder – 2x Titanium, 1x Glass, 1x Basic Battery, and 1x Copper Wire
  • Fabricator – 1x Titanium, 1x Copper, and 1x Quartz
  • Floor Locker – 3x Titanium and 1x Quartz
  • Biobed – 3x Titanium, 1x Glass, and 1x Copper Wire
  • Noa Terminal – 3x Titanium, 1x Copper Wire, and 1x Glass
  • Solar Panel – 1x Titanium and 2x Quartz
  • Hatch – 1x Titanium and 1x Quartz
  • Window – 1x Glass

If you fancy building a massive bio structure early, you might want to start hoarding a lot of Quartz. I’d suggest waiting until you unlock the storage containers, like the Lockers or the Portable Lockers before hoarding any type of resource since your main storage gets full easily.
