“Thanks to the continued support from our fans across the globe, we are honored to announce remarkable sales during the holiday season,” said John Kodera, the CEO and President of Sony Interactive Entertainment in a new press release about the PlayStation 4. According to the press release, the PlayStation 4 sold 5.9 million units over the 2017 holiday season.
He continued by stating “PlayStation Network continues to demonstrate spectacular growth, with the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers surpassing 31.5 million, and PS Store recording its largest-ever monthly sales of content in December 2017. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our community and our partners for helping us achieve such phenomenal milestones. We promise our unwavering commitment to bring more amazing experiences to our fans, including exclusive games and innovative network services, as PS4 continues to flourish as the best place to play.”
This report brings the total number of PlayStation 4s sold globally to over 73.6 million units as of December 31, 2017. That’s a huge number of consoles sold, and Sony has a reason to be proud of how well the PS4 has done. On top of this information they also revealed that over 55.9 million PS4 games were sold during the 2017 holiday season alone, including both digital and physical releases. That brings the total PS4 games sold up to 645 million copies as of December 31, 2017.
It’s no doubt that 2017 was a huge year for the PlayStation 4, and for Sony as a console maker.
