After years of waiting, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is finally out on PC and consoles, and it’s an Unreal Engine 5 title, meaning performance and visuals can be a bit of a mixed bag. Additionally, the game doesn’t feature individual toggles for several post-processing effects.

Here is how you can disable the chromatic aberration effect in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 if you’re playing on the PC version.

Disable Chromatic Aberration in Vampire The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 lumps all the post-processing effects like chromatic aberration, depth of field, and motion blur under the same setting, meaning you’ll disable all of them at the same time if you want to get a cleaner image. Chromatic aberration, in particular, is pretty aggressive, and here is how you can disable that manually:

  • Make sure Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 isn’t currently running.
  • First, open Windows Run by hitting the Windows and R keys together.
  • Enter the following address, and press OK.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Bloodlines2\Steam\Saved\Config\Windows\
  • Here, open the Engine.ini file using a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++.
  • Enter the following lines at the bottom.
[SystemSettings]
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
  • After you’re done, save the file and close the editor.

Disable Motion Blur

For motion blur, open the Engine.ini file again and enter the following additional text under [SystemSettings]:

r.MotionBlur.Max=0
r.MotionBlurQuality=0

Make sure to save the file before closing it!

Disable Depth of Field

Finally, if you want to disable depth of field in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 as well, enter the following additional text in the Engine.ini file under [SystemSettings]:

r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0

Additional Effects

You can further configure the Engine.ini file to disable even more effects, like Bloom and Lens Flare:

r.BloomQuality=0
r.LensFlareQuality=0

Reminder: All of these must go under [SystemSettings].

Final Configuration File With All Three Effects Disabled

If you want to disable chromatic aberration, depth of field, and motion blur, then your Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 Engine.ini file should have the following commands:

[SystemSettings]
r.MotionBlur.Max=0
r.MotionBlurQuality=0
r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0

If you want to turn any of these effects back on, simply remove the relevant line(s) from the Engine.ini file, and you’ll be good to go. I’m honestly surprised that the developers didn’t add individual toggles for these settings, and I really hope they add them in a patch. For now, though, the configuration file edits should do the job. If you need any help, let me know in the comments below.
