The music industry, and how people consume it has evolved quite a bit over the past several decades, and now Atari—one of the biggest names in old-school gaming—is looking to shake things up a bit with a new product called a Speakerhat. The product was first revealed at the 2017 San Diego Comic Con, where Atari spoke with several members of the press about the new Speakerhats, which are expected to hit the market in the fall.
The unique Speakerhats are developed in partnership with Audiowear, who works to manufacture the speakers that fit within the hat’s bill. The connected speakers also run off of Bluetooth, which means you can connect any smart device to them and start playing your favorite music in no time. Right now the company has several different designs planned for the Speakerhat’s release in the fall, though they haven’t all be revealed just yet.
The Speakerhats are just the first in a line of near wearable technology that has been dubbed the “Atari Connected Life” initiative, and initiative that Atari hopes to use to help blur the lines between fashion and the future. To help celebrate the launch of this new product, Atari is also partnering up with the NECA and the upcoming BLADE RUNNER 2049 film to bring a limited edition co-branded Speakerhat in honor of the series’ upcoming return to the big screen. This information was revealed at a special BLADE RUNNER 2049 experience that fans could check out at SDCC. We’ve included a video with more information on that below.
Want to know what the new Speakerhats look like? We’ve included a few nifty product shots below that outline the hat and where the speakers rest at within it. Altogether it’s actually a nice looking piece of wearable technology, and if you didn’t know what you were looking at, you wouldn’t suspect that the hat holds all of the tech that it does.
There is no solid release date for the Speakerhats just yet, but you can learn more about Atari Speakerhats by checking out the Atari Life website, where you can also sign up to join in on the Speakerhat’s beta testing program, right now.
