Prey – Get the Disruptor Stun Gun

Learn how to find this handy stun gun early on in Prey.
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

The Disruptor Stun Gun is an interesting weapon that can be used to incapacitate humans, overcharge machines, and even stun Typhon entities like the Mimic. It won’t work too well on more advanced Typhon enemies, but it’s still worth having in your arsenal for when you start running into less than cooperative human NPCs. In this article we’ll show you the quickest way to find the Disruptor Stun Gun in Prey.

How to Get the Disruptor Stun Gun

We didn’t acquire the Disruptor Stun Gun until we made our way to the Volunteer Quarters, which may very well be the natural progression that many players use to find this weapon. However, you can actually get your hands on it much earlier in the game, before you even leave the Neuromod Division for the first time.

To find the Disruptor Stun Gun you’re going to need to have the GLOO Cannon, which can attach globs of gunk, or GLOO if you prefer, to the wall, which you can then use to climb up to hard to reach places. This weapon can actually be used to bypass the broken elevators in the area near the exit to the Talos 1 Lobby.

Head up the stairs to where you obtain your first Neuromod and turn to the right. Locate the wall just before the locked door at the end of the platform, and then begin creating small platforms that you can use to climb up to the top. It may take you a few tries to get it right.

Once on the second floor, head down the walkway towards the corpse of V-010255-01, which is to the right of a large mural on the wall. The Disruptor Stun Gun is on the ground next to this corpse. While you will find this weapon in other places, this is by far the easiest way to obtain it right at the start.

How to Upgrade the Disruptor Stun Gun

Once you have the Disruptor Stun Gun, you’re going to want to work on upgrading it some, to make it more useful against your enemies. Of course, since this weapon is a more specialized weapon than your Pistol or Shotgun, you’ll want to wait until after you have upgraded other weapons first.

After upgrading other weapons which are more useful, if you choose to upgrade the Disruptor Stun Gun, be sure to focus on the range and shots (shots act as the weapons ammunition capacity), and once you have acquired the Gunsmith I and Gunsmith II abilities, you may want to look into upgrading the other factors of the weapon.

As we stated above, the Disruptor Stun Gun is a specialized weapon, and the charge function that it offers is by far the most useful. It isn’t something you’ll want to use in hectic combat situations, so only make use of it on unsuspecting enemies like Corrupted Operators, Turrets, and crew members who have fallen under the control of the Typhon.
