Nintendo Switch – How and Where to Pre-Order

Find out the best places to pick up a pre-order for Nintendo’s upcoming console.
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

The Nintendo Switch will be arriving on March 3, 2017 for a retail price of $299.99. With those details out of the way, all that’s left is to pre-order one so you’re ready to go in March. If you’re asking about the Nintendo Switch pre-order date, it’s already here. Nintendo Switch pre-orders have begun in North America, so if you live in the US or anywhere else in North America, it’s time to get a move on so you can secure a Nintendo Switch for March 3rd. This article covers how to pre-order a Nintendo Switch and where to pre-order a Nintendo Switch. Find out when to head out to GameStop for a Nintendo Switch pre-order, or how to pre-order at Amazon, Walmart, Target or Best Buy.

Where to Pre-Order a Nintendo Switch

Pre-orders at Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy are already open, and GameStop in-store pre-orders went live at 10AM local time on January 13, 2017. Walmart, Target and Amazon only have the grey Joy-Con version available, but Best Buy has the grey and neon Joy-Con versions up for pre-order at the time of this posting. Right now Target and other outlets have not yet opened their pre-orders, but we’ll be sure to update this article as soon as pre-orders on those sites go live.

It should be noted that Best Buy and Walmart will both place a hold on your credit card for the amount of the Nintendo Switch console. If you don’t have the funds to buy a console the transaction may be declined, but you will have 24 hours to correct this issue when buying through Best Buy.

While Best Buy is showing you can obtain a console on launch day, Walmart is currently listing March 7, 2017 as the earliest you can get a console shipped to you, with March 8, 2017 the earlier store pick-up date. Once again, this map change as we get closer to release, but that’s where it sits at right now.

For now you shouldn’t need to worry about pre-ordering games or accessories. They should be readily available when the console launches. However, if there’s an accessory you’re clamoring for, you may want to pre-order that as well. At the moment most stores do not have accessories available for pre-order, but you can get some from Target and other stores should follow a bit closer to launch.
