Fallout 4: War Never Changes – Create Your Character, Go to Vault 111

Choose a male or female hero, then quickly escape nuclear annihilation by entering Vault 111.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

You begin Fallout 4 standing in front of the bathroom mirror with the goal of creating your in-game character. This includes choosing whether to be male or female. Additionally, you’re able to sculpt this person’s face, adjusting the length of the nose, adding blemishes, scars and making a variety of tweaks; no one will think it odd if the process takes in excess of an hour or more. After exiting the bathroom, you’ll have another chance to customize your hero before nuclear annihilation.

When you finish with your character, take a tour of his or her home. Interact with everything. Go inside the refrigerator and examine the Nuka Cola, check out the Sugar Bombs on the kitchen table and speak to your robotic assistant, Codsworth; you can even sit on the couch. There’s no rush!

Eventually a salesman from Vault-Tec rings the doorbell. Answer and then engage this friendly guy in conversation. He sells you and your family a coveted spot in Vault 111, but there’s more to this chat than a simple sales pitch. You’re able to select the name for your character and assign points to the desired stats.  If for some reason you don’t understand what each stat does, highlight one and then look at the bottom right area of the screen to learn more. Personally, we put the majority of points into Strength, Perception, Intelligence and Agility, but you may choose to go another route depending on the type of person you wish to become and the stats you find most important.

Following the scene with the Vault-Tec salesman, Codsworth tends to your son, Shaun. Walk into Shaun’s bedroom and activate the mobile hanging above the baby’s crib in an effort to calm him down. Play with Shaun if you must, but interacting with the mobile advances the game.

With Shaun’s needs met, return to the living room and watch the tragic events being reported on the news. When the game allows, leave your house and hang a right down the street. Shortly afterwards go right again and follow the dirt path leading over a wooden bridge and past security en route to Vault 111; good thing the salesman appeared when he did! Lost? Check the bottom of the screen to see the direction the game wants you to go.

Proceed into Vault 111 and interact with your fellow dwellers. However, the game wants you to speak with the Vault-Tec staff and slip into the Vault 111 jumpsuit.  The doctor will lead you to a decontamination pod, and going inside of this contraption results in some cut scenes. The in-game cinemas last for a little while, so enjoy the events as they unfold and daydream about the exciting adventure about to take place through the wasteland.
