Valiant Hearts: The Great War appears to be flying under the radar thus far. Don’t expect that to last too long, though. Built on the UbiArt Framework engine and developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, this single-player, puzzle adventure game will be talked about for a long time to come.
Following the lives of Emile, Freddie, Anna, Walt and Karl as they navigate their way through the brutality of World War I, Valiant Hearts: The Great War will take players on a roller-coaster ride of emotions. From the feeling of exhilaration after a triumphant battle, to the heart wrenching despair of seeing friends and family torn apart by war, no emotional stone is left unturned.
As always, however, being knee deep in plot won’t save you from the game’s many obstacles and puzzles that stand between you and the ending. Luckily, we’ve already completed the journey that Valiant Hearts: The Great War took us on, and we’re here to help you do the same. Whether you’re missing the combination to a safe, or just can’t figure out how to defeat the dreadful Baron Von Dorf, we’ve got you covered.
Chapter 1: Dark Clouds – Defeat Baron Von Dorf, Solve the Poison Gas Puzzle
In the first chapter, players are given a taste of all the main characters that they can expect to encounter throughout the remainder of the game. You’ll start off as Emile, but quickly transition to Freddie and Anna as you progress, working alongside your trusty dog, Walt. You’ll even get a glimpse of Karl, a German born man trying to get home to his wife and child in France.
In terms of gameplay, you’ll be faced with several challenging puzzles, each of which we’ll explain and help you pass with clear instructions and great detail. Whether it’s the poison gas machine or dynamite puzzle, we’ve got you covered. We’ll even show you how to defeat Baron Von Dorf in a makeshift boss battle at the chapter’s end.
Chapter 2: Broken Earth – Safe Combination, Save Freddie with the Artillery Gun
The second chapter starts off heavy on the Anna gameplay. Working her way through The Great War as a medic, you’ll be forced to solve puzzles and save anyone who needs your help. We’ll not only show you how to get the combination to the safe, we’ll just flat out give it to you so you can be on your way.
The second part of the second chapter takes players back to Emile, Freddie and Walt. Tasked with storming Fort Douaumont, we’ll show you how to clean the French soldier’s sock, and even exactly where to aim in order to save Freddie with the artillery. Lastly, we’ll once again show you how to not only defeat Baron Von Dorf, but also save Freddie, Walt and Anna’s father.
Chapter 3: The Poppy Fields – Rebuild the Tank and Escape the POW Camp
The third chapter will see players take control of Karl, Freddie and Emile. Karl is stuck in a POW camp and must find a way to break out. We’ll show you how to get the bolt cutters, then how to escape the search parties as they try to track you down.
When you take control of Emile, you’ll be stuck in a series of underground tunnels. We’ll help you with every puzzle that Emile and Walt encounter, then show you how to win the vehicle chase boss fight to finish the chapter.
Chapter 4: Wooden Crosses – How to Open the Combination Lock and Valiant Hearts Ending
Chapter four of the story is where everything ends. Karl is still trying to get home to his wife and child, and we’ll help you get him there by guiding you through how to crack the combination lock. Once you’re close to home, we’ll help you work your way through the barn until you take over Freddie.
Once you take control of Freddie, we’ll show you how to use the tank to take out the German soldiers, then help you keep Emile alive as he tries to take back the hill from the Germans. Finally, with Karl near death, we’ll help you save his life by guiding Anna to the first aid kit.
