Astroneer has several important resources and some of them don’t usually show up unless you literally go out and find them out in the world. That’s the case with Clay, as they can be hard to find at times. They are also used to get Ceramic, so you are losing a lot of tech if you are missing these resources. Luckily, there are multiple ways to get Clay, and here’s how to get them in Astroneer, including how to turn that Clay into Ceramic.
How to Get Clay in Astroneer
To get Clay, you’ll need to do some exploring. Clay looks like those refined-looking rocks or boulders on top of the planet’s surface. Mining these with your mining tool will give you Clay, but they are kind of hard to find. You’ll have to explore around your area to find them. However, there’s another way to get Clay and this method is way easier than actually looking for them and drilling them.
If you have unlocked and have the materials for a Soil Centrifuge that is crafted in a Medium Printer, you’ll have the ability to get your own Clay from other resources.
First, you want to create some Small Canisters using Resin. You want at least two of them or in multiples of two. After equipping your Small Canisters, you can start mining the terrain or land until they fill up. You should mine the terrain you have no plans of using so it doesn’t ruin the aesthetic of your base.
Once you have the two Small Canisters filled up, you’ll need to go to your Soil Centrifuge to turn them into Clay.
A Soil Centrifuge needs Aluminum and Compound to craft. Once you have the Soil Centrifuge set up, place the two Small Canisters inside, go to the menu of the Soil Centrifuge, and look for and select Clay. Each process gives you six Clay, so filling up two Small Canisters has a 2:6 ratio for getting Clay. This is one of the best methods to get Clay in Astroneer.
How to Get Ceramics in Astroneer
As for Ceramics, you just need to process your Clay in one of your Smelting Furnaces to get them. These are very important to have as Ceramics are used to craft several products and buildings to progress from the early game to the late game. In fact, you’ll still be using them in the late game to expand storage, build large shuttles (which also need EXO Chips), and more. In short, you want to stockpile a ton of Ceramics since they are used frequently in Astroneer.
