Managing your inventory is surprisingly one of the most challenging things in Factorio 2.0. In a game where automation is the key to success, you would think that it would be easy to organize all your outputs into one neatly compact hub. In the early game and even up to the mid-game, you’ll struggle to do this and continuously craft items and manage your inventory. Learning management tips such as withdrawing and depositing stacks of items will make everything easier in the early game, and here’s how to do it in Factorio 2.0, as well as other helpful tips.
How to Withdraw and Deposit Multiple Stacks of Items at Once in Factorio 2.0
Aim your cursor on an item while opening a storage or production building. Hold Ctrl and press left click to withdraw one stack of the item. If you hold Ctrl and right-click, you’ll get a half stack of the item. When you hold Alt and press left click, you’ll withdraw every stack of the item in the storage until your inventory is full or the storage runs out of the item.
Depositing works the same way as withdrawing, but you have to hover your cursor to your inventory instead. One of the most common uses in the early game is when you deposit to production buildings needing some sort of fuel or vehicles needing ammo or fuel.
When depositing items in buildings that need fuel, like Furnaces, you can use Ctrl + left click to automatically get any fuel source in your inventory. Pressing on any item in your inventory will also automatically deposit fuel. However, it won’t work for vehicles like cars because they have their own storage, too.
Tip: You can stand on transport belts with items on top of them and hold “F” while running to pick up everything on the belt like a vacuum.
How to Limit Stacks of Items in Chests or Buildings in Factorio 2.0
When you open your chests, you might have noticed that red icon on the last slot of its inventory. This is actually a feature where you can limit a chest not to exceed a certain number of stacks of items inside. This is mainly used for production buildings that end with an output leading to a chest.
For production factories that create other factories, like automating Electric Furnaces or Assembling Machines 3, you want to limit your chest to a couple of stacks because you don’t want thousands of these items at a time. Even if you have a grand plan of making a mega-giga-factory, you are not going to use that many that quickly. Use this for production line sparingly since you want other factories like your Transport Belts and Inserters to produce as many as possible.
If you are using blueprints, you might be using more materials than usual.
