Street Fighter Characters We Would Love to See in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Fatal Fury’s Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui will be appearing in Street Fighter 6’s Season 2 DLC as crossover characters—the first time crossover characters will appear in a mainline Street Fighter title. Ever since the announcement, fans can’t help but wonder about the possibility of Street Fighter characters appearing in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Below are our choices of duos who would make a great impact if they were to appear as guest characters in the latest entry in the Fatal Fury series.

Street Fighter Classics Ryu and Chun-Li

Ryu and Chun-Li are the safest Street Fighter character picks to join Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, but safe doesn’t mean boring. These fighting game icons have earned their legacy and would no doubt be great crossover additions to any game, especially in a fellow fighting game. Ryu and Chun-Li are also the Street Fighter characters most analogous to Fatal Fury’s Terry and Mai, keeping the dual crossovers neat and simple.

The crossover combination of Terry and Mai with Ryu and Chun-Li would also reflect the two series’s historical ties: the original Street Fighter game was created by Takashi Nishiyama for Capcom in 1987. SNK’s own inaugural fighting game, Fatal Fury, was made in 1991… also by Takashi Nishiyama, who had left Capcom before getting the chance to work on Street Fighter 2. Ryu and Chun-Li appearing in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves would make for a solid crossover pair that, when combined with Terry and Mai in Street Fighter 6, harkens back to the rivalry of the two series in the early ‘90s.

Street Fighter 6 Newcomers Luke or Jamie and Kimberly

Another option for a Street Fighter crossover duo to appear in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is Luke or Jamie and Kimberly. Instead of Street Fighter classics, this group focuses on Street Fighter 6 newcomers, representing the series’s forward momentum. As the new “face” of the series, Luke is a safe choice to appear in Fatal Fury, and his fighting style would translate easily into another fighting game. His rival Jamie would also be a great pick since his street style would fit right into the world of Fatal Fury.

Kimberly is another great choice to appear in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Her fighting and fashion style are already a strong match for the game. City of the Wolves’s visual style also lends itself well to her spray paint shenanigans. If Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves opted to feature the newest Street Fighter characters rather than classics as guests, it would be spoiled for choice with Street Fighter 6’s unique and varied cast.

Street Fighter Across the Ages: Zangief and Juri

Zangief and Juri are a Street Fighter duo that we would love to see in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves for the potential rivalries they would create. Zangief, who isn’t a stranger to crossover fighting games, would finally get to test his body of iron against the masked wrestler of justice, Tizoc, who has not yet made a crossover appearance himself. And the question of who has the best aerial kicks, Juri or B. Jenet, can finally be answered. No matter how serious the game, crossovers are ultimately meant to be fun, and adding Zangief and Juri to Fatal Fury would be nothing short of entertaining.

Getting to see these matchups of the century is already a major benefit on its own, but the duo of Zangief and Juri also brings with it the chance to celebrate characters from across Street Fighter’s history in Fatal Fury. Zangief is a series classic from Street Fighter 2 who has since been included in all mainline games save for the Street Fighter 3 series, in addition to his various crossover appearances. Juri is more recent from Super Street Fighter 4, but has cemented herself as a series staple and fan favorite. She hasn’t had the chance to appear in as many crossover fighting games as Zangief has, but she has been a guest in other games, including WWE SuperCard. While Ryu and Chun-Li focus solely on the classics and Luke or Jamie and Kimberly focus on the most modern the series has to offer, Zangief and Juri are standout supporting characters that show how much fans love Street Fighter characters, both old and new.
