Valve have released a load of info on Survival mode, the forthcoming new feature in the Left 4 Dead Survival Pack, informing fans that “the number of zombies killed in a single round often outnumbers an entire campaign”.
The Left 4 Dead blog (props to Kotaku for noticing [link]) explains that Survival mode is, as previously reported [link], similar to the survival modes you’ll all know from various games through the years, pitting players against a never-ending stream of Infected.
The blog notes that games “regularly last under ten minutes, and emphasize competition with team play through leaderboards”.
Apparently Valve worked very hard to try not to make the mode too hard to be fun, making sure it didn’t “cross the line from having fun to just getting worn out”. Valve tried to pay attention to the pacing of the game, making sure there aren’t too many Infected released at a time, especially bosses. They have even taken player skill into consideration to make the game a constant, yet well-balanced challenge for everyone playing.
The Survival Pack is out on 21st April, it’ll be free for Xbox 360 and PC owners. Along with Survival Mode, players will also get Dead Air and Dead Toll opened up in versus modes.
