Nvidia’s Project Shield, which made waves earlier this year after being unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, is just about ready to go public.  The company announced today that the handheld open platform system will release at the end of June for $349.99, and pre-orders will kick off through various retailers starting May 20th.

Running on an Android 4.2.1 based 5-inch retinal display with a high-quality controller attached, this handheld system comes with plenty of features, including 16 GB of internal storage, expansion through the SD card slot on the back, a built-in mini-HDMI port and more.  It also has several great games lined up for it, including Double Fine’s new Broken Age project, as well as the classic Costume Quest.  The Shield itself will come with two games packed in free of charge – Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 and Expendable: Rearmed.

To learn more about the Shield, head over to Nvidia’s page and see why it’s definitely living up to the hype.  We wouldn’t mind one of these bad boys around the office…
