LucasArts Says Farewell With Awesome Eulogy

Warning: might bring a tear or two to your eye.

Sometimes we forget just how much people put into this industry, and how much of an effect the closure of a company has on them.  We’ve seen a lot of companies come and go over the years and the latest to sadly depart is LucasArts, which closed its doors last week after nearly 30 years in the business.

However, LucasArts chose not to go quietly.  Jesse Harlin, a former composer for the company, managed to write an awesome eulogy saying goodbye to them that was posted alongside pictures, both joyous and sad, of various employees.

“In the trenches of game design, work was hard.  Crippling crunches that lasted for months aged us and tested our sanity.  Sometimes executives presented us with projects, development partners, or deadlines that were impossible,” wrote Harlin.  “But giving all of yourself creatively never stopped.  Ever.  Marriages failed as we poured our hearts into games that the press might eventually skewer.  Pregnancies were delayed in favor of project milestones.  Funerals were missed.”

You can see the eulogy in its entirety here. It’s quite emotional, and a spellbinding farewell to one of the coolest game companies out there.  Here’s to you, LucasArts.
