The Frostbite 3 engine was shown off for Battlefield 4 and it sure is impressive.  It is a tantalizing preview of what is possible with the next Mass Effect game, which will launch using the same engine.

“This BF4 gameplay video is spectacular, and a great way to see what the engine of the next Mass Effect is capable of!” tweeted BioWare Montreal studio director Yanick Roy.

One question this raises, however, is if Dragon Age III will use the Frostbite 3 engine or not.  When the game was announced in late 2012, it was billed as a Frostbite 2 game.

When queried about this, Roy responded “I’ll let them speak to that,” referencing the Dragon Age III team at BioWare Edmonton . “My team’s focus is on the next Mass Effect, and we plan on using the latest and greatest FB [Frostbite] can offer.”

Dragon Age III is currently slated for release sometime this year.  The next Mass Effect game isn’t likely to come out for at least a couple of years.
