Warframe: How to Get and Use the Catalyzing Shields Mod

Ironic that a mod with Shields in the name reduces shields.

If you want to max out your potential in Warframe, you’ll need the right set of mods. Here’s how to get the Catalyzing Shields mod in Warframe.

Where to Get the Catalyzing Shields Mod in Warframe

The Catalyzing Shields mod in Warframe can be earned when opening Orokin Derelict Vaults. For this, you’ll need to explore the Orokin Derelict tileset, which can be found on any Deimos node excluding the Cambion Drift, Magnacidium, Exequias, and Hyf. You’ll also need all four Dragon Keys: Hobbled, Extinguished, Bleeding, and Decaying. These must be equipped to your Gear Wheel and will give a debuff to you upon equipping them.

With all of that ready to go, head into the Orokin Derelict tileset and search for a Derelict Vault. These are denoted by their half circle door, with a Dragon Key symbol on their front. Use the Dragon Key, then claim the bright orange light within. From there, just complete the mission and extract to get a random mod from a set. While the Catalyzing Shields mod only has a 4% chance to drop, the other drops are equally interesting.

Note:

For every Dragon Key used, you’ll need to craft a replacement. You can also make multiple of one at the same time.

What Does Catalyzing Shields Do?

At max rank, the Catalyzing Shields mod will lower your maximum shields by 20%. To compensate for this, it will increase your Shield Gate duration by 1.33 seconds. If you don’t know what Shield Gating is, it’s an invulnerability period where you can’t take damage after your shields deplete. This makes Catalyzing Shields good for an extra bit of survivability but is niche in its use case. You should only use it if you know how to play around the Shield Gate. For most builds, that won’t be possible.
