Ubisoft Officially Confirms Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Coming Later This Year

It's a pirating life for us.

Earlier this week, we reported on the rumor that the next chapter in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series was officially underway, this time with a pirating theme in mind.  At the time, it was just rumor…but now it looks like Ubisoft is officially waving the skull and crossbones flag.

The company not only confirmed the existence of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag this morning, but also revealed the first art for the game, featuring a man in traditional Assassin garb, wielding a pirate sword and a pistol.  This sets a remarkable change of pace from Assassin’s Creed III, though it’s still possible that this assassin’s path will still somehow intertwine with that of Connor’s.

Though official details for the game won’t arrive till Monday, a new combat system is likely to be introduced, one that involves some pistol play.  In addition, treasure hunting could become a bigger focus for the sequel – you are a pirate, after all.

Look for more details next week.  Meanwhile, work on that pirate accent of yours.  “ARRRRR!”
