Nintendo aired its latest Nintendo Direct special today, one chock full of love…for Luigi.
The company proclaimed 2013 “Year of the Luigi”, as he’s featured not only in next month’s upcoming Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, but also the just announced RPG Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (coming this summer), as well as Mario Golf: World Tour (coming later this year), both for 3DS. In addition, Wii U owners can give him a swing in the New Super Luigi U DLC coming to New Super Mario Bros. U, coming sometime this year.
Luigi wasn’t the only focus of today’s Nintendo presentation, as Donkey Kong is making a comeback. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is coming to the 3DS this summer, along with Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which has a launch date of June 9th. Nintendo also confirmed some new downloadable games coming to the eShop, including Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, Dillon’s Rolling Western: The Last Ranger and HarmoKnight. In addition, a Castlevania Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate demo is due on February 28th.
Finally, the company has launched a new initiative for its 3DS XL, prompting those who buy it and a copy of either Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon or Pokemon Mystery Dungeon to get a free game on them. One of five free downloadable games can be chosen, including Super Mario 3D Land, Star Fox 64 3D and Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask. The promotion runs March 21st through April 30th.
