Why Does Movement Feel Different In Fortnite Season 5 Chapter 1?

Why Does Movement Look Different in Fortnite?

Your eyes aren’t deceiving you; Fortnite’s movement has been completely revamped. Featuring a new animation engine that allows players to move more realistically on the battlefield, you’ll find that it may take a little time to get used to how things look and feel. While I’m personally a fan of it, especially since I main Zero Build mode, some players are not happy with the overall changes.

There are a few main takeaways from this new movement engine: forward momentum is slightly slower, side-to-side movement has been increased, and crouching speed has been reduced to make it more stealthy. Building animations also look different and feel slightly slower than they were in the past.

It seems that even the developers of the game took some time to get used to the new movement system, but as players continue to make their way into Fortnite, hopefully, some of the sting will slowly fade away. It’s hard to make changes like this, especially in a game featuring the same movement system since 2017, but it feels generally better to play now.

While the general walking speed may be slower, some other things have been modified: sprinting is faster, and stamina recharges faster. Mantling has been fixed and looks fantastic, and generalized movement in air and on the ground looks fantastic. Time will only tell if this update will stick or if fan feedback will force Epic Games to revert these movement changes.
