Nintendo TVii Set To Go Live Tomorrow With Various Streaming Services

Nintendo's TV viewing experience for Wii U launches in time for the holidays. Now go watch Elf!

A few months ago, at a press conference where Nintendo revealed all the “big announcements” for it, the company introduced the Nintendo TVii service for the Wii U, enabling users to track down and play programs on their system using a number of streaming services, with a helpful search tool that let them locate their favorites right away.  Unfortunately, the service wasn’t quite ready in time for the system’s launch…but you won’t have to wait too much longer now.

Nintendo has confirmed that their TVii service will in fact go live, starting tomorrow with the system’s weekly update.  It will tie in to various content sources – including Comcast, Hulu Plus, Netflix and Amazon Video – to help users find the programs they want to watch, whether it’s popular TV shows or movies.  The service will be available free (or should we say Frii?) of charge.

“After Dec. 20, you’ll never look at your TV the same way again,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “Wii U owners have already experienced the transformative effect that the GamePad has on game play and social interaction. Nintendo TVii shows how the integrated second screen of the GamePad can also transform and enhance the TV viewing experience. Welcome to the new world of TVii.”

We’ll give you a run-down of the TVii services soon, but in the meantime, we suggest trying it out for yourself.  After all, Elf and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation are pretty much required viewing this time of year…
