An attempt at funding a game via Kickstarter by Brenda Braithwaite, Tom Hall and dev team Loot Drop has been abandoned before its deadline.
While the team had managed to raise almost $250,000 of their $1m goal it decided to cancel two weeks before the deadline.
“In the industry, games are pitched every day. Some make it to the next stage, but many don’t. We regret to announce that we’re adding Shaker: An Old-School RPG to the latter list,” an update on Kickstarter read.
“Ultimately, our pitch just wasn’t strong enough to get the traction we felt it needed to thrive. Sure, it may have made it. We could have fought our way to a possibly successful end. In reading your feedback and talking it over internally, however, we decided that it made more sense to kill it and come back with something stronger.”
“In game design, mercy killing is the law.”
Shaker was sounding pretty interesting, plus Braithwaite and Hall are reputable game designers so it’s a shame in many ways that nothing will come of this.
It was to be a blend of sci-fi and fantasy in which a time travel company by the name of Shaker send agents into a medieval world to make changes. Shaker was intended to be turn-based with parties while including the usual trappings of the promised old-school RPG aesthetic (no bad thing).
Loot Drop is promising to make a comeback with something very soon but what will it be?
