We love the PlayStation 3, but one thing that irks us is when a game requires an additional install, like the 7.5 GB for Tekken Tag Tournament 2. However, some companies are going the optional route, including Activision.
The company has confirmed that you will be provide the option to install textures to the PS3 hard drive to give the game a smoother running performance. When asked in the Black Ops 2 forums about the option, Game Design Director David Vonderhaar had plenty to say.
“When we explained to PS3 folks that installing to the HDD wouldn’t necessarily (sic) give us any significant performance gains, they explained back that the issue is they play so much it puts constant stress on the Blu-ray drive and wears them out,” Vonderhaar stated.
The install will take up a “non-trivial amount” of HDD space (unlike Battlefield 3), though a number couldn’t be given.
We’ll let you know how this technically performs before the game hits store shelves on November 13th.
