2017 was one of the most exciting years for Pokemon GO, the game was getting into its groove, and everyone was either playing it or knew someone who was. So, it’s no surprise that this hype for the game extended to members of the police force. What is surprising, however, is today’s newly released footage, which shows five minutes of two police officers, Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell, ignoring a backup call for a robbery, as they were too engrossed in the game back on April 15, 2017.
Originally stated to have lied about the reason for their refusal to lend aid when requested, the footage released by 404 Media is unmistakable. The footage and audio not only clearly illustrate that they ignored the call, but also drove dangerously to catch their desired Pokemon. This includes driving the wrong way down a street, driving dangerously close to other drivers, and speeding.
Now that the footage is available for everyone to see, it is clear that the firing of these two police officers after the LAPD internal affairs department investigated was the right call. As well as their appeal being unsuccessful. The hysteria surrounding Pokemon GO was absolutely massive, and many people were heavily invested. Fortunately, the situation didn’t become worse, and now there are rules and regulations in place to avoid such an event happening in the future.
