Ursaluna, has a special new form in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Bloodmoon Ursaluna, and while it’s the same Pokemon as Ursaring’s Hisuian evolution, they have quite a number of differences. Read on to discover all the differences between regular Ursaluna and its Bloodmoon form in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Regular Ursaluna’s Evolutionary Line in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Regular Ursaluna evolves from Teddiursa and Ursaring, although Ursaring can’t evolve into Ursaluna in Scarlet and Violet. In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Ursaring evolves by using a Peat Block during a full moon. Both Peat Blocks and moon cycles are absent in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, making it impossible to evolve Ursaring.
The only way to obtain regular Ursaluna in Scarlet and Violet is by evolving Ursaring in Pokémon Legends: Arceus and transferring Ursaluna to Scarlet or Violet using Pokémon HOME.
Bloodmoon Ursaluna, on the other hand, doesn’t evolve from Ursaring at all. You can breed it to produce Teddiursa eggs, but there is no way to evolve Ursaring into a Bloodmoon Ursaluna.
Regular and Bloodmoon Ursaluna’s Different Stats
The most noticeable difference between regular and Bloodmoon Ursaluna is that regular Ursaluna is a physical attacking powerhouse while Bloodmoon Ursaluna is a great special attacker.
Defensively, Bloodmoon Ursaluna has a higher Defense stat, but regular Ursaluna is more well-rounded overall, with a higher Special Defense and HP. Speed-wise, both are rather slow, so a Speed-reducing nature could be a good choice for either, especially if you’re interested in running a Trick Room team. Here are their base stats in comparison:

Regular and Bloodmoon Ursaluna’s Different Abilities
Regular Ursaluna’s Three Possible Abilities
Regular Ursaluna has three possible Abilities. The first is Guts, its most commonly used Ability. Guts increases a Pokémon’s Attack stat by 50% if it’s suffering from a status condition. It also allows the Pokémon to ignore the Attack penalty from a Burn, making the Flame Orb a fantastic held item to activate the Ability. Most regular Ursaluna use Guts and Flame Orb along with the move Facade to dish out massive damage.
Its other regular Ability is Bulletproof, which makes a Pokémon immune to “ball” moves such as Aura Sphere and “bomb” moves such as Seed Bomb. Its Hidden Ability is Unnerve, which prevents opponents from consuming their held Berry items. To get its Hidden Ability, you need to use an Ability Patch item.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna’s Exclusive Ability, Mind’s Eye
Mind’s Eye is an all-new Ability that is exclusive to Bloodmoon Ursaluna. The main effect of this Ability is that it allows the Pokémon’s Normal- and Fighting-type attacks to damage Ghost-type enemies. On top of that, Pokémon with Mind’s Eye can’t have their accuracy lowered and get to ignore the changes to opposing Pokémon’s evasion. Accuracy-reducing moves aren’t all that common in competitive play, but getting to ignore evasion increases is always a nice bonus effect to have.

Both Ursaluna forms learn similar moves through leveling up. Their most notable differences come from regular Ursaluna’s focus on physical attacks compared to Bloodmoon Ursaluna’s more special attack-focused learnset. Bloodmoon Ursaluna’s Exclusive Attack, Blood Moon
Blood Moon is a Normal-type attack that only Bloodmoon Ursaluna can learn. Its main effect is that it can’t be used twice in a row. This may seem like a big drawback, but with 100% accuracy and a whopping 140 power, this is a small price to pay. Bloodmoon Ursaluna can still attack after using Blood Moon.
By comparison, the iconic move Hyper Beam has 90% accuracy, only 10 more base power than Blood Moon, and doesn’t allow the Pokémon that used it to move at all on the next turn. This attack is especially powerful in conjunction with Bloodmoon Ursaluna’s Mind’s Eye Ability, allowing it to damage Ghost-type Pokémon despite its Normal typing.
Regular and Bloodmoon Ursaluna’s Different TM Attacks
Like their level up moves, both regular and Bloodmoon Ursaluna have a similar selection of TM attacks. Again, regular Ursaluna learns extra physical moves while Bloodmoon Ursaluna learns more special attacks. Below is a table of all the TMs both forms of Ursaluna can learn. Regular Ursaluna’s Egg Moves (and Pre-Evolution Move)
Because Bloodmoon Ursaluna doesn’t evolve from Ursaring, it can’t learn any Egg moves. Regular Ursaluna does learn some Egg moves, which can be taught through the Mirror Herb method. Belly Drum is an especially strong move for Guts Ursaluna to have in its arsenal. If you want to teach some Egg Moves to Ursaluna, you can do so by following the steps below:
- Give Ursaluna as many empty move slots as Egg Moves you want it to learn
- Have Ursaluna hold a Mirror Herb
- In your party, have Ursaluna and the Field Egg Group Pokémon that knows the move you want Ursaluna to learn
- Wait for a few minutes, and Ursaluna will automatically learn the Egg Move

Regular Ursaluna can also remember the move Baby-Doll Eyes, which Teddiursa learns in Scarlet and Violet at Level 1. If you want Ursaluna to learn Baby-Doll Eyes in Pokémon Legends: Arceus before transferring it to Scarlet or Violet, you can have either Teddiursa and Ursaring learn the attack at Level 6.
Minor Differences Between Regular and Bloodmoon Ursaluna
There are other, minor differences between the regular and Bloodmoon forms of Ursaluna. Regular Ursaluna is 7′ 10″ (2.4 m) while Bloodmoon Ursaluna is 8′ 10″ (2.7 m). As a result, the regular Ursaluna is 639.3 lbs. (290 kg) while Bloodmoon Ursaluna is heavier at 727.5 lbs. (333 kg). While there are some moves, such as Grass Knot and Low Kick, that change in power based on the target Pokémon’s weight, they cap out when the Pokémon is 200 kg or more, so the forms’ weight differences are actually negligible.
How to Catch Bloodmoon Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Catching a Bloodmoon Ursaluna is much easier than you think. You’ll first need to complete the Bloodmoon Ursaluna side quest given by Perrin, who is in Mossui Town west of its Pokemon Center. Here are the steps necessary to catch a Bloodmoon Ursaluna in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet:
- Battle Perrin after accepting her quest.
- Once defeated, she’ll ask you to take photos of 10 different Pokemon during foggy nights. Night will automatically become foggy after talking to Perrin.
- Crouch and sneak, get close to the Pokemon, then take their photos.
- After you complete this, Perrin will ask you if you then want to battle the Bloodmoon Ursaluna. Don’t worry about catching it during the battle, as the option will be given to you afterward.
You will need to have caught at least 150 Pokemon in the Pokedex before being able to take on this quest. The Ursaluna battle will be hard. It has a huge health bar, is a ground-normal type that can hit ghost Pokemon, and will increase its stats over the battle to insane numbers. It’s in your best interest to end this fight as fast as possible.
Ursaluna is weak to Fighting, Water, Grass, and Ice. We recommend bringing Pokemon that can use these type weaknesses to good effect, while also tanking Normal and Ground-type attacks. A Corviknight that knows Body Press and Reversal is a good choice for this.
How to Get Regular Ursaluna
If Bloodmoon Ursaluna isn’t your speed, you can opt to get a regular Ursaluna. However, this Pokemon doesn’t exist in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet naturally. However, you can use a Pokemon Home subscription to transfer an Ursaluna from the game Pokemon Legends: Arceus into Scarlet & Violet. You can also trade for it with other players online.
