While Starfield has received a fair bit of praise since its official launch last week, there have been a few points of contention for both Xbox players and especially PC players. The game itself has been fun and has all the Bethesda-style RPG goodness for those attuned to its wavelength, but its settings menu has been missing some core features that heavily improve playability and performance. If you feel their absence has impacted you, you’re in luck. Bethesda has today released a post on Starfield’s Steam page announcing several highly-requested features in the works.
While the hotfix the blog post is based on is fairly small and mainly improves stability on Xbox Series X|S, it detailed a group of changes coming “in regular intervals.” These changes include but are not limited to:
- DLSS support
- An FOV slider
- 32:9 Ultrawide support
- HDR Calibration
- Brightness and contrast settings
While the last two are less requested but still welcome, the first three options will transform Starfield for many players. The most downloaded mod on mod-hosting site NexusMods is an injector for Upscaler support, with nearly 600,000 downloads at the time of writing. An FOV mod also holds around 100,000 downloads. Having these features officially supported will be a game-changer.
Alongside these features being on the way, the team said they’re “working closely” with GPU manufacturers to develop drivers that improve stability and performance for Starfield. They even went as far as mentioning mod support still being on the way and currently planned for release early in 2024. While we’ve already speculated as much, it’s nice to see the confirmation.
It’s good that Bethesda isn’t just remaining in the shadow of Starfield’s missing features. Sure, many people don’t need these things to run the game. Having them available, though, is a massive help to those who do. I downloaded a DLSS mod myself, and it was already a significant boost to performance, with barely any visual drawbacks. Here’s to hoping some additional mods make things even better.
