So, you got tired of the rogue-lite mechanic that forces you to go back from the start (“back to the old drawing board” cartoon trope) and you want to stop bothering yourself with researching and endlessly trial-and-erroring your runs? You’ve come to the right place. Prima Games has a special place in our hearts for roguelike and roguelite games, and we will be glad to help you choose the best team comp for your Darkest Dungeon 2 needs.
Best Team Composition for Darkest Dungeon 2
Depending on what you have available, you can perform a variety of comps, which will utilize the traits of your characters. Here are some of the compositions which have shown themselves viable:
1. “Starter Pack” Build
Before we proceed, we need to clarify our formatting:
- Place the characters in the same order as they are here. Naturally, the character on the right will be tanking.
- Abilities are sorted in alphabetical order.
Plague Doctor | Grave Robber | Highwayman | Man-at-Arms |
Battlefield Medicine | Absinthe | Duelist’s Advance | Bolster |
Blinding Gas | Flashing Daggers | Pistol Shot | Crush |
Incision | Pick to the Face | Take Aim | Defender |
Noxious Blast | Poison Dart | Tracking Shot | Hold the Line! |
Ounce of Prevention | Thrown Dagger | Wicked Slice | Rampart |
This one is pretty basic and fits the “Starter Pack” meme. You will certainly have all of these characters and abilities when you first start playing Darkest Dungeon 2.
2. “Swiss Army Knife” Build
Or in other words: Midrange build that doesn’t particularly excel in any task, but on the other hand, doesn’t particularly suffer from any big problems either. It should work out fine for you.
Jester | Plague Doctor | Man-at-Arms | Hellion |
Battle Ballad | Battlefield Medicine | Bolster | Adrenaline Rush |
Encore | Incision | Crush | Howling End |
Finale | Indiscriminate Science | Rampart | Iron Swan |
Inspiring Tune | Magnesium Rain | Retribution | Toe to Toe |
Solo | Plague Grenade | Strategic Withdrawal | Wicked Hack |

3. “Avengers: Endgame” Build
This one will be sufficient to finish the game and slay the final boss, if you “play your cards right” and if “stars align”. No, this is not a disclaimer for the moment when things go south and a way for us to wash our hands of this build. It’s just… Darkest Dungeon, and Darkest Dungeon 2… are very unforgiving games, with oftentimes… cruel outcomes.
Grave Robber | Plague Doctor | Highwayman | Man-at-Arms |
Absinthe | Battlefield Medicine | Duelist’s Advance | Bellow |
Lunge | Indiscriminate Science | Highway Robbery | Bolster |
Pirouette | Magnesium Rain | Point Blank Shot | Crush |
Poison Dart | Noxious Blast | Take Aim | Hold the Line |
Shadow Fade | Plague Grenade | Wicked Slice | Retribution |
If you (still) don’t have a character (or ability) from here unlocked, keep grinding, or adapt to improvise and overcome!
That’s all for this guide. See you soon at Prima Games!
