The game will be a free-to-play affair with the option of buying new cards. There’s more than 200 characters here allowing gamers to create a deck-based battalion.

The game lets players expand their territory, build up a base camp and join “3D character battles” similar to those seen in previous Valkyria Chronicles games, so says Andriasang.

If you make your way over to the Valkyria Chronicles Duel site before June 25th you can sign yourself up for the beta. There’s mention on a smartphone app but whether this will be fully featured or simply a companion app we’re not sure.

The last title in the tactical RPG series, Valkyria Chronicles 3, was available on PSP in Japan though never made it to the rest of the world.

If you’d like to see the game’s first trailer just cast your eyes down a centimeter or so.
