Though not everyone is crazy about the thought of another Call of Duty game, there’s no question that Treyarch is putting a painstaking amount of effort into the futuristic sequel, one packed with an engaging new storyline, tons of multiplayer options and a whole lot of action. But if you’re getting it for PC, you’ll also be getting something extra – your own dedicated servers.
Treyarch’s director of technology, who goes by @pcdev on Twitter, recently posted, “Confirmed: Ranked Dedicated Servers for #blackops2.” This isn’t the first time that the series will be using dedicated servers, but it does mark the first time that dedicated ranked ones will be introduced, which should be a huge leap forward for certain players.
Still, we can’t help but wonder…will consoles be getting such a feature? There’s no question that Xbox 360 and PS3 owners are just as devoted to their Call of Duty games as PC fans are, so they should get a little something out of the process, too. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see…
Look for Call of Duty: Black Ops II on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on November 13.
