How to Change Difficulty in Resident Evil 4 Remake? – Difficulty Levels Guide

Some of you may remember, but the original Resident Evil 4 from 2005 had an adaptive level of difficulty, in the sense that if you died a lot, the game would automatically reduce the number of opponents and their aggressiveness – to keep the challenge at just the right level that isn’t frustrating. However, the Remake does not return this mechanic, but when you first start the game (and the demo version as well) it gives you a choice of three difficulty settings:

  • Assisted (Easy) – “For players unfamiliar with action games”, turns on aim-assist, gives you more ammo when crafting, automatically recovers some health when you are in danger and lower prices of certain items at Merchant’s
  • Standard (Normal) – “For players who have not played Resident Evil 4 (2005)”, this is the default mode and suggested one for a decent challenge on the first playthrough, but don’t expect this to be a walk in the park.
  • Hardcore (Hard) – “For players who have played Resident Evil 4 (2005)” should have said, for players who are masters of Resident Evil 4. You will die. A lot. Stronger enemies and harder challenges and to make this handicap mode complete – even higher prices for certain items.

You can choose the difficulty level when you start a new game, and it cannot be changed during gameplay. It is only possible to select a lower difficulty level on the Game Over screen and go from Standard to Assisted.
