Ah, yes, Hogwarts Legacy. You know, the magic game where you can cast spells, fly across the British Isles on a broomstick, and become a Pokemon Trainer. Wait, no, sorry, that’s the wrong series… Or is it? Technically yes, but Portkey Games’ dip into the open world takes one obvious inspiration from Game Freak’s lovable franchise: shiny Pokemon, or “beasts” as they’re known in the new RPG.
You Can Catch Shiny Pokemon Beasts in Hogwarts Legacy
Upon gaining access to the Room of Requirement and completing The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom main story quest, you will unlock the ability to catch wild beasts. A handful of species are scattered around Hogwarts, including the famous Hippogriff and Phoenix, and if that didn’t sound exciting enough already to the seasoned Harry Potter fan, there are shiny versions. OMG.

They appear among packs of regular beasts, and just like in Pokemon, the alternate-colored critters are incredibly rare, so much so that you may spend hours searching for one and never find it. But if you are lucky enough to encounter a shiny beast, aside from the obvious color difference, the other indicator will be a star next to its name and, once caught, a star on its summary page in your inventory. Oh, and you can breed them too.
Fortunately for all the shiny hunters out there, there are only 13 beasts in Hogwarts Legacy – a stark contrast to the Pokemon series’ 1,008 creatures as of Gen 9. Tracking 13 of them down is a lot of work in itself; imagine having to hunt over a thousand. Even with magic at hand to help, that’s a huge “no, thank you” from me, dawg.
