Longtime Nintendo fans had much to be thankful for in 2002, the year they received a double dose of Metroid. The publisher released the somewhat controversial but ultimately brilliant Metroid Prime for the GameCube on November 17, bringing the series into the third dimension with a cool first person perspective. On the same day, the company also delivered Metroid Fusion for the Game Boy Advance.
Unlike its GameCube counterpart, Fusion features the side-scrolling 2D gameplay we fell in love with when the original Metroid debuted on the NES in 1986, complete with an open world to explore, bounty hunter Samus Aran blasting through doors to gain entry and helpful upgrades like the Morph Ball and Screw Attack, but the plot and other elements were original.
In particular Samus’ Fusion Suit, a replacement for her trademark Power Suit that was the result of her being infected by the X Parasite, doctors removing parts of the suit and then injecting her with a vaccine derived from a baby Metroid. Not only does the Fusion Suit look slightly different, but also features a unique color scheme.
With Samus amiibo in hand, we set out to transform this already great looking figure into Fusion Suit Samus. Granted, we were unable to alter the design of the suit itself, but with steady hands, paint and some patience, we’re proud to display this Fusion Suit Samus amiibo on the shelf in the office.
That said, see how we transformed Samus in this Prima video, and let us know what you think. If you create your own custom amiibo, give us your painting tips, and if you haven’t played Metroid Fusion, download it from the Wii U’s Virtual Console.
In the meantime, check the amiibo subreddit for the latest news and cool custom paint jobs!
