How to Unlock Master Locks in Starfield

To open master locks in Starfield, you must first go into the skill tree, navigate to Tech, and invest three points into Security. The first rank allows you to hack Advanced locks, while the second unlocks Expert. The third will enable you to attempt Master-level locks. Once you do this, you can approach any Master-lock and follow the regular, albeit more challenging, minigame to open it.

However, you won’t be able to unlock this immediately. Every rank has specific challenges you must complete before you are eligible to rank up. For example, going from level one to two requires picking at least five locks, increasing as you reach subsequent ranks.

Once you get rank three security, you just need to get some Digipicks and interact with the next master lock you find. Its puzzle will be far more challenging than ones with lower difficulties. Still, the main strategy you’ve followed up until now will be the same: find the right keys through the process of elimination and carefully figure out your first few steps so you don’t run into an impossible situation later on.

How to Get Digipicks in Starfield

If you’re low on Digipicks or want to make sure you don’t run out during your playthrough, you can find some using the following methods:

  • Purchase from shops
  • Find in the environment
  • Loot from enemies

If you want to find some Digipicks quickly and don’t mind spending money, you can head to Jemison Mercantile in New Atlantis and buy some if they’re in stock. Otherwise, you’ll find some as you travel around and can even pick them up from enemy corpses.
