If you’re stumped on what all of these are for or on things like how to get Color Bottles and Rainbow Ink, we’ve got you covered with a guide on everything you need to know about Color Bottles, Rainbow Ink, and the Paint a Toona Fish feature in Fortnite!

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 | What are Color Bottles and Rainbow Ink, How to Paint Toona Fish

To Unlock Character Styles For Your Toona Fish

  • First, claim the Toona Fish Outfit from the Battle Pass page for 9 Battle Stars
  • Next, you’ll need to acquire the game’s 21 different Color Bottles
  • Three bottles of each color need to be collected to officially unlock that Color Bottle
  • Color Bottles are located throughout the map, for example, Knightly Crimson is located at Fort Crumpet west of Believer Beach
  • Once you have the requisite Color Bottles, you’ll need 10 Rainbow Ink per character style
  • Rainbow Ink can be found in Chests

As part of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8’s Battle Pass, players have the opportunity to customize your very own Toona Fish Outfit. You can paint your Toona Fish in a variety of different colors, and there are unlockable character styles for further customization.

The idea is similar to the customizable alien back in Season 7, but instead of finding Alien Artifacts, you’re going to want to be on the lookout for both Color Bottles and Rainbow Ink. Color Bottles are similar to Alien Artifacts in that they’re found at various locations across the map.

In total, there are currently 21 Color Bottles with names like Knightly Crimson and Diamond Blue that you can collect in order to unlock special color schemes and character styles for your Toona Fish.

Note that you’ll first need to unlock the Toona Fish Outfit on Page 1 of the Battle Pass for 9 Battle Stars.

You can’t begin the collection process until you have the Toona Fish Outfit. Also be sure to check back, as we’ll be posting a separate guide on where to find all 21 of the Color Bottles in Fortnite.

To get a head start, you can select each Color Bottle in the Paint a Toona Fish page and at the bottom right corner, you’ll see where those Color Bottles can be found like Knightly Crimson which can be found at Fort Crumpet.

While you’re searching for Color Bottles, you’ll also want to keep an eye out for Chests this season as Chests are where you can acquire Rainbow Ink. You’ll see the Rainbow Ink symbol (rainbow drop) when you open Chests, confirming you’ve acquired some Rainbow Ink.

It’s collected automatically so you don’t have to pick anything up, simply open Chests and you’ll add to your supply of Rainbow Ink. Once you’re familiar with finding Rainbow Ink, the next order of business is knowing what to do with it.

In the “Paint a Toona Fish” section, scroll down and you’ll see a section where you can redeem your Rainbow Ink for a variety of unique character styles. You’ll need to collect Color Bottles first before you’re able to unlock these character styles.

Essentially, you’ll need to have the Color Bottles and 10 Rainbow Ink per character style. Right now, there are 21 different character styles you can unlock, which correspond with the 21 different Color Bottles that you can collect.

This isn’t the full extent of the styles you’ll be able to unlock. If you scroll to the bottom of the Paint a Toona Fish page, you’ll see a section with 21 additional squares, all with question marks on them.

In 17 days – on or before October 1 – these will become available, allowing you to grab some additional styles for your Toona Fish. Until they become available, we recommend finding all 21 Color Bottles first before you do anything else.

After you have all of the Color Bottles, you’ll want to go through and unlock all 21 available character styles (again 10 Rainbow Ink per style). We hope this helps, and again, be sure to check back as we’ll be posting a guide showing you where to find these Color Bottles in the near future!
