Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 Delayed Until 2021

We're going to have to wait a little bit longer to sink our fangs into this RPG adventure.

We’re going to have to wait a little bit longer to sink our fangs into this RPG adventure because Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has officially been delayed until 2021 due to quality reasons.

The team over at Paradox Interactive took to the game’s Twitter account to share the bad news, stating that they need some more time to polish up the game and that it just isn’t quite where they want it to be for a holiday launch. While disappointing, a delay means a much smoother launch which means good things for those excited for the next step in the Masquerade adventure.

According to the above statement, “Our goal has always been to deliver the best game possible, to immerse you into a Seattle re-imagined in the World of Darkness, and deliver a worthy successor to the original Bloodlines game. Due to the quality bar and ambitions we have set for ourselves, we have made the difficult decision that we need more time. This means that our goal is to release in 2020 is no longer possible. Moving launch is one of the changes we are making to ensure the best player experience [is] possible.”

They added, “This is not a decision taken lightly nor is it the first option we considered. We will share more information in the coming months on launch timing and other organizational changes that will help us achieve this goal. We understand that this will be a disappointment to many of you, but we also appreciate how our ambition is echoed through many parts of the community. We hope you understand that, while difficult, this is the right call.”

We don’t have any release date info other than a 2021 window, this that makes this the latest game in a long list of titles that have been pushed back for quality and COVID-related reasons.

Hopefully, the team is able to take a step back and the more time means less pressure regarding crunch. Crunch culture has been in a glaring spotlight over the past years with many studios being called out for their unhealthy practices regarding development and the mental state of the developers behind-the-scenes. While getting a game on launch is always the goal, making sure that the game fits the vision and the devs are taken care of should always be the main objective. This will also hopefully eliminate any need for day one patches to fix a broken launch period.

What do you think about the decision to delay Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 until 2021? Right call, or are you lamenting a longer wait time? Sound off with your thoughts over on Twitter @PrimaGames, we’d love to hear what you think!
