How to Get Missions in Red Dead Online

Getting new missions in Red Dead Online is simple, in fact, after you complete the opening tutorial and unlock the game’s free roam mode, you’ll already have several missions logged for you on your map. But, there are a couple of different mission types you can complete.

Yellow marked missions on the map are Story Missions. These are instanced events that only you and your Posse (or you can matchmake with random players if you wish) can complete together. This will remove you from the free roam instance and load you into a closed lobby that you can complete the mission in, allowing you to do so without any outside interference. There are quite a few of these missions available, and even once you complete them you can replay them from the game’s menu.

On top of the main story missions, players can also complete free roam missions like delivering mail bags, collecting missing stagecoaches, and even delivering supply wagons to different towns. There are a multitude of these to be completed around the map, and each one will automatically begin within the free roam instance that you’re loaded into. These missions are marked by the Stranger symbol of the person waving.

Now, the thing to remember about Free Roam Missions is that they take place in the open world, which means that any players in your lobby can attack you and break into the mission. This adds some additional risk to the mission and gives you some additional threats to worry about outside of the normal NPCs that you have to fight in story missions. The only downside here, though, is that the pay isn’t always that great for the job, and sometimes you end up dealing with a tough bunch of players coming after you.

Either way, though, there are a ton of great missions and fun activities for you to take part in within Red Dead Online’s ever-evolving world.
