What to Expect from the Final Fantasy 15 Demo

The Episode Duscae demo will be here before you know it. You may even battle against a Titan!

A lot of Final Fantasy fans have been clamoring to get their hands on Final Fantasy Type-0 HD so they can play the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo offered to those who pre-order the game. However, it was recently revealed that the demo is still a work in progress and may not release day and date with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. Looks like fans will have to play through the 40 hours of Type-0 HD while they wait for the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo. In the meantime, let’s take a look at what you can expect from the upcoming demo.

The demo is titled Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae because it takes place in the Duscae area of the game world. When the demo was originally presented in September 2014, it was stated that it would take about an hour to complete if you use the car and don’t explore at all. Since that time the car has been removed from the demo, so players spend more time looking around and exploring the area. Going on foot will net you a good three or four hours of play time.

While we don’t have an exact look at the map from the demo, we do know that the area is vast. It includes mountains, lakes and other notable natural landmarks to make players feel like they’re in a living, breathing world. Players will actually be able to enter the lake featured in the demo. In the Jump Fiesta trailer (featured below), many of the segments will be present. We also know that you’ll be able to battle against a Behemoth at some point. If you take a look at the trailer, there’s a large-scale battle against a Titan. That’s part of a massive battle against an army, so hopefully that’s one of the features to make the cut.

In addition, there’s a female mechanic named Cindy who is essentially the first female Cid in a Final Fantasy title. For those unaware, Cid has been somewhat of a trademark character, appearing in almost every Final Fantasy to date. While the new character shown during the Jump Fiesta presentation is Cindy instead of Cidney, she basically replaces Cid. She won’t have a direct impact on the story, but you’ll talk to her about gameplay. Players will be able to learn more about this mysterious character as they play through the demo.

A day and night cycle is a big feature of Final Fantasy 15, and the demo will showcase this as well. At night the area gets dark in an effort to create a scary environment. Players won’t know what to expect, since monsters may ambush them at any point. Speaking of being scared, jumping has always had limited use in the Final Fantasy series, but you can jump in Final Fantasy 15 and that feature will be present in the demo.

You won’t end the demo with a boss battle like some have hoped for. However, you may find a dungeon and there will be plenty of monsters to battle, as well as something amazing for Final Fantasy fans that Square Enix won’t detail just yet. It’s possible this is in reference to the Titan battle that can be seen in the Jump Fiesta footage. If that is indeed the case, it certainly begs the question of what constitutes a boss battle when fighting against an army and a giant Titan isn’t classified as such.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will release in North America on March 17, but it may be a little longer before players get their hands on the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo. Still, with 100 hours of play time in Type-0 HD (if you explore and do everything), plus another three or four hours in the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo, fans should have more than enough to keep them entertained.
