Some of the Best Looking Games at E3 2015

These games are as much fun to look at as they are to play.

The 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo is currently underway and there are hundreds of cool video games on display from all the major companies. It’s impossible to see everything, but we watched all of the press conferences and trailers. We’re huge fans of state-of-the-art graphics, so while it’s too early to say where these titles will fall on the list of all time greats, these are some of the best-looking games at E3. If we missed your favorite, lets us know!

Star Wars Battlefront

When Electronic Arts and DICE released a glimpse at Battlefront earlier this year, the cinematic cuts left us desperate to see the in-game visuals. Was it fancy full motion video designed to excite the hardcore Star Wars fanbase, or was EA able to retain this visual fidelity, or at the very least come close to it? The answer appears to be a mixture between the two, and after witnessing this game who cares at this point? Battlefront looks stunning, with intense firefights played out on both Hoth and Tatooine. Intense ground combat features Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader duking it out, and both Imperial and Rebel forces scurrying around, while TIE Fighters and X-Wings battle for air supremacy. If all goes according to plan, this could be the Star Wars game of our dreams, just in time for The Force Awakens in December. For now, learn new details about the game’s Survival Mode.

Halo 5: Guardians

We’ve seen plenty of impressive looking Xbox One games, especially Forza Horizon 2, but Halo 5 appears to top them all in the graphics department. 343 Industries dug its claws into the hardware to produce the ultimate Xbox experience, from eye-grabbing alien environments to outstanding detail on Spartan and Covenant forces. We expect nothing but quality from both the single player and multiplayer campaigns, particular Warzone, the large-scale online mode that reminds us of Battlefield 4.

Doom

There’s no such thing as a visual downgrade when it comes to the Doom franchise. With each sequel, you always know id Software plans to raise the virtual bar for graphics, and this new collaboration with Bethesda is no exception.  The demon-infested space station never looked better, with incredible lighting effects, ensuing explosions and of course, hellish monsters lining up for the slaughter. Bits and pieces fly every which way following a blast from the Super Shotgun, and the classic chainsaw carves through flesh, leaving behind piles of chewed body parts. We couldn’t believe how amazing Doom looks, and it’s 100 percent gameplay. Read Prima’s Doom first look for even more info.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

There was no better way to end Sony’s pre E3 press conference than with a generous helping of Uncharted 4 footage. The sheer number of non-player characters walking about, combined with exquisite lighting effects, a beautiful world and high speed chase left us speechless and reaching for our wallets. There are numerous reasons why you need a PS4, and consider this numero uno.  Not only does Nathan Drake’s latest appear to be a system seller, but also a rare breed of game that’ll help sell HDTVs, because you’ll want to have the best setup possible to experience Naughty Dog’s title in full 1080p glory. Can’t watch the Uncharted 4 demo for some reason? Read all about it.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Heroine Lara Croft looks gorgeous in Microsoft’s timed exclusive. The E3 Tomb Raider demo features the death-defying treasure hunter navigating a snowy mountain, leaping across chasms and scurrying up walls to avoid  a brutal death. No need to pinch yourself. Rise looks this good.

Fallout 4

Bethesda took post apocalyptic Boston and made it gorgeous in Fallout 4. You may disagree with us listing it among titles like Uncharted 4, but considering the massive world before our eyes, there’s plenty of eye candy to feast upon, from the bomb-ruined landscape to the creature designs, 1950s style imagery and hubs filled with non-player characters that we detail in this Fallout 4 E3 feature.

Super Mario Maker

Nintendo’s build-it game for Wii U does not feature the same visual impact as the other titles on this list, but there’s beauty in its simplicity.  The primary reason we included it is the ability to effortlessly switch between the original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U visuals on the fly without a single drop in performance. This neat visual trick is one of Super Mario Maker’s coolest selling points Nintendo fans won’t be able to resist when the game ships in September. Read our Super Mario Maker first look to learn more!

Yoshi’s Woolly World

We fell in love with Kirby’s Epic Yarn on the Wii because of its unique arts and crafts design, a theme carrying over to Yoshi’s Woolly World. The delightful Wii U platformer features characters and levels built from yarn and wool. Not only does it look good, but the graphics factor into the gameplay, with Yarn Yoshi producing tiny balls of yarn and then throwing these objects at enemies and pieces of the environment to solve puzzles. And yes, we want to buy all of the Yarn Yoshi amiibo.

Of course, these are but a small number of video games. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Just Cause 3 and Horizon Zero Dawn also feature jaw dropping visuals, which begs the question, what’s your favorite game at E3 2015?
