Thieving Challenges

  • Remain Undetected – 350 G
  • Pick 8 Pockets – 275 G
  • 10 Kills or Knockouts – 250 G
  • Lift All Loot Items – 280 G

Before you begin the chapter, visit the Shady Merchant and stock up. You might also want to see the Queen of Beggars to buy some additional Focus points. Buy the Razor Tool and Wrench Tool from the Shady Merchant. Also be sure to stock up on all your arrows, especially Rope Arrows. Many short cuts are available in this game, and most require Rope Arrows.

Objective 1: Find Jacob in Greystone Plaza

Walk about 10 feet, look to your right and you have completed your first objective. Too bad they aren’t all that easy.

Objective 2: Go to the Architects Grand House

Just follow your objectives, looking for loot and being careful not to fall off any ledges. There will be a brief cut scene showing an explosion at The Keep. Slide down a slope and snag the poppy. Next, look to your left and put a Rope Arrow in the anchor beam above. Descend the rope and head toward the two benches. Underneath one you will find Serendi Stone Circles (4/7) – Lapis Lazuli Circle. If you now have four, you’re on track. If you’re missing any, check the previous three chapters for their locations. Make sure to grab the arrows from the box on the barrel. Ascend the rope and continue your journey.

Objective 3: Find a Way Inside the House

It is possible to sneak into the house undetected, but it’s not easy. There are five guards hanging around. We opted to take three out with headshots, killing the two patrolling guards by putting a Fire Arrow into the ground next to the northeast barrel. Save them for last to avoid the others hearing the commotion. Use Focus, look at the barrel and wait for the guards to pass through. Shoot the liquid with a Fire Arrow. Now it’s just you and a couple of caged dogs. You can silence dogs with Choke Arrows, but even if they bark at you, nobody is alive to hear it.

Explore the outside grounds of the mansion. Be sure to investigate the sheds to the east and west. There isn’t any collectible loot here so we’ll show you how to enter the mansion. Look up to the northeast and use Focus to spot a ladder. Shoot the gear next to the ladder with a blunt arrow, giving you access to a crawl space that will put you on the mansion’s top floor. It’s a major short cut, but misses a collectible loot item.

Climb the ladder, but rather than go for the crawl space, head west along the balcony where you shot a guard. Jump over to the top of the greenhouse and drop through the roof to find a poppy and a bag of food. Consider saving your progress before turning the valve all the way to the right. Next, press a loose brick to find a secret passage. Climb down the ladder and immediately hack the control box on the wall to disarm a trap. Move along the passage until you reach two peepholes. Peer inside, waiting for a cook to head upstairs. When he leaves the room, visit the south peephole and press the button on the wall.

Objective 4: Get up to the Architect’s Study

Quickly hack the control box in the room and wait in the northwest corner for the cook to return. When he does, sneak behind him and knock him out.

  • Shortcut: The control box is optional. If you just want to snag the Remain Undetected Thieving Challenge, go back out of the room the way you came. You can take an elevator directly to the architect’s study. It’s a major short cut that will cause you to miss out on collectible loot. Your call, but we’ll show you the long way.

Sneak up to the kitchen where you’ll find a guard. Move quickly, and when he tries to leave the room, hit him with your Blackjack, knocking him out. If you let him get to the foyer, he could just stand there. If he gets to the foyer, take him down with headshot from a Broadhead Arrow.

With him down, you’re free to explore the first floor. Loot everything but save the room to the east for last. When you go inside, find a button on the side of the desk. Press the button to reveal a safe on the north wall. Pick the lock to open the safe and claim Unique Loot (4/9) – Morendrum Medal. When you have all the loot the first floor has to offer, save your game and head upstairs.

Two of the second floor rooms have people in them, with a lone guard at the top of the third floor stairs, trying to get into the study. When you get to the second floor, enter the bathroom to the southeast. You can then sneak into a northeast room, knocking out a maid and the architect’s wife. Next, move over to the northwest hallway, where another maid and guard are chatting it up. From the doorway, take out a caged bird with a Choke Arrow. Sneak into the room, climbing up on the bookshelves above the room’s two occupants. From here, you can take them down however you want, although staying undetected is tough.

When they’re down, go back into the hall and up the stairs toward the guard by the study. Knock him out, use the Razor Tool and snag The Court of Montonessi (8/12) – The Abundance of Emptiness. If you are wondering where the previous seven are, they can found in various parts of The City and by doing a few of the Client Jobs. Go back to the room where you knocked out the two women and loot it, making sure not to miss the safe. There are quite a lot of valuables in here.

Head back into the library (where you took down the guard and maid) and pull a book on the shelf. If you can’t find it, use Focus. Move through the secret passage, press the button on the wall and ride the elevator up. When the ride is over, move through the passage and press the button on the wall to enter the study.

Objective 5: Search the Study for the Keep Plans

Climb the ladder to the balcony. Move to the painting on the wall and feel for the triggers. When you find them, a large model of the Keep will emerge from the floor. Head down to the model and arrange the pieces to match the Keep, which you can see just outside the window. Your objective is complete when you correctly solve the puzzle.

Objective 6: Steal the Plans and Escape

Head to the bookshelf and steal the Keep Plans and Great Safe Combination. When you regain control, sprint to the north. You can pretty much hold the sprint/climb/jump button down the entire way to make your escape.

Objective 7: Get to the Keep

When the cut scene ends, go left and visit the Shady Merchant. A great time to stock up on your various arrows. We like to bring the maximum allowance for each arrow whenever possible. You never know if things will go badly.

Go east and climb a rope that will lead to an attic. Move through the crawl space to continue making your way toward the Keep.

Objective 8: Get Inside the Keep

Everyone around you is dead or dying, so don’t bother sneaking. Just be careful of the Keep itself. That’s your only source of danger right now. Move to your objective, being sure to avoid exploding pipes. As soon as you drop to a walkway it collapses. Move east along a large pipe until you reach a very large piston. When it retracts, swoop past it. If you’re too slow, it will crush you. Move through the crawl space to complete your objective.

Objective 9: Find and Rescue Basso

It goes without saying, but avoid fire. Move to the southwest corner of the room and turn a valve. Head north and then turn west, brining you to a control box and a door. Hack the control box and then open the door. Plunder the room, go back out and head toward your objective. The smoke in this room harms you, so keep an eye on your health and eat some food if necessary. When you are out of the smoke, pick the locked door to the east.

This area features two collectible loot items. Straight ahead, on the body of the dead guard is Memories of the Dead (3/6) – Soldier’s Memory. Keep moving to the far east where you can get the City Heritage Plaques (12/16) – The Keep. Many of the City Heritage Plaques are not found within the chapters, but in The City itself.

Get on the elevator and take a ride upwards. When you exit the elevator, begin looting the surrounding area, then head toward your objective. When you come to a lever, pull it and move through to save Basso.

Objective 10: Find the Great Safe

Take another elevator ride up and climb through the roof hatch. Move through the crawl space and jump down to the floor below. Approach and pull the lever in the middle of the room to reveal the safe.

Objective 11: Open the Great Safe

There are switches on each side of the safe. Press one, then run to the other side and press the other. If you’re too slow, you’ll have to repeat the process. When the locks are reset, approach the dials to input the combination. There are two sets of dials, each requiring its own combination. The left dial is 3, 1, 9 and the right dial is 0, 1, 8.

When the cut scene ends and you regain control, climb the wall directly to the east. Move left and take cover by a crate. When the guard on the landing isn’t looking, knock him out from behind. Immediately press a button on the control panel to turn the lights out, giving you the advantage of the shadows. Go back to the north end of the alcove the guard was patrolling. Once there, you can claim The Moral Coils (4/6) – Shale Snake Bracelet. If your number doesn’t match ours, you’ve missed one in our walkthrough or in The City itself. That’s the final collectible item for this chapter.

Move back to the control panel where you knocked out the guard. You could work your way around the room and knock out the rest of the search party, but we achieved headshots with our Broadhead Arrows. You might raise their alarm, but you’re far enough away that you can take them out safely.

Objective 12: Steal the Primal Stone

When the last guard is down, move back to the safe and input the right side combination again. The safe will open, allowing you to steal the Primal Stone, ending the chapter.

By completing this chapter, players will unlock the A Friend in Need trophy or achievement, depending on what platform you play the game on.
