Ah, the age-old dilemma: which starter Pokemon do I pick? We totally understand, I mean, choosing between Charmander and Squirtle in Pokemon Red & Blue back in the day was a huge decision and it’s only become harder since then. Gen 9’s First Partner Pokemon are no exception – have you seen how cute they are?! We’re here to help you decide which Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter to go with; Sprigatito, Quaxly, or Fuecoco.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Starter Pokemon: Sprigatito, Quaxly, or Fuecoco?
So there are a couple of factors when it comes to the best starter Pokemon in Paldea. On one hand, it comes down to whether you’re a fan of Grass, Water, or Fire more, or you could just do what we’re doing and pick solely based on how cute they look. Quaxly’s majestic hair flip, Fuecoco’s cute smile, Sprigatito’s literally a cat so say no more… How can anyone resist?

While there’s no “official” Gym order in the Paldea region, with The Pokemon Company claiming that players can take on any Gym, Titan Pokemon, and Team Star Base in whatever order they want. While this is technically true, you’ll get your butt kicked if you do since levels don’t scale so you could find yourself waltzing into a level 50 Gym at level 20.

With this in mind, we’d recommend Fuecoco as a starter if you want an easy time in the early Gyms. Quaxly is the most balanced but is weaker in the early Gyms, though it has an advantage with Team Star’s Fire Crew and one of the Titan Pokemon towards the end of the game. As for Sprigatito, it is the quickest and has high attack power but still won’t fare as well in early Gyms, Titan Pokemon, and Team Star Bases.
