The Midwinter Blight event in Diablo 4 is full of rewards to collect, and if you’ve seen the Shard of Dawn Aspect, then you have also seen a reference to the Midwinter Ward. It’s not immediately obvious, but you can get the ward through the town square, and this guide will explain how.

Diablo 4: What is the Midwinter Ward?

The Midwinter Ward is a totem that you can activate in Kyovashad for an event-based buff that lasts for six minutes at a time. Although the buff only lasts for six minutes, the totem has unlimited uses and you can take the buff outside of Kyovashad as well. So if you are in the Fractured Peaks past the time limit, you can simply teleport back.

As for the buff itself, it really only helps you with the Midwinter Blight. When you activate the Midwinter Ward, it will provide a 20% damage buff against Blightfiends and the Red-Cloaked Horror boss. It sounds powerful, but it will only help you within the Fractured Peaks while the event is active. Afterward, the Shard of Dawn and the totem become useless.

How to Unlock the Midwinter Ward in Diablo 4

To unlock the Midwinter Ward, you must reach tier 3 of the Midwinter Tributes. Your current tribute rank can be seen at the bottom left of the screen when you activate the Midwinter Proofs Exchange table. Any time you turn in items like Blighted Fragments or a Red-Cloaked Trophy, you earn some tribute points.

Tier 3 is the final level and reaching it will light the fire below the totem in the square. At this point, you should also have enough Midwinter Proofs to redeem the Shard of Dawn Aspect. Or you can save those for a new cosmetic in Diablo 4.

Make sure to start collecting Blighted Fragments as soon as you can to get all the cosmetics.
