How to Upgrade Armor in Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)

Stock up on materials, have many rupees, and then find a Fairy Fountain.

There are loads of armor sets in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as well as many ways to upgrade these suits of armor to make them look fancy or stronger. In this post, I’ll guide readers and Zelda players through the procedure for upgrading Link’s armor in the game.

To get things started, you must know who is needed and what is needed to upgrade your armor. So first things first, where to go and who to find? 

To upgrade Link’s armor in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you must find all of the Great Fairy Fountains, have lots of rare and common materials, and have plenty of Rupees to pay for all the upgrades.

Let’s start with all of the Great Fairy Fountain locations in Hyrule.

There are four Great Fairy Fountains in Hyrule that you must find to upgrade your armor fully. They are situated nearby four stables across Hyrule, as displayed on the map below.

Complete Side Quests 

There are specific side quests that must be completed for you to get all the fairies out of hiding in their giant bud. All of the quests involve finding musicians to play music for them.

Once you’ve completed a side mission, the great fairy will thank you and offer to enhance your clothing a little bit.

Have Plenty of Materials in Your Inventory

To enhance armor sets in Tears of the Kingdom, you must have a plethora of common and rare materials. From amber to Dinraal’s scale, small critters in caves, monster parts collected from battles, and more are all required to upgrade armor.

Have Plenty of Rupees to Pay for Enhancements

Coupled with the materials, you’ll also be required to pay Rupees to enhance your armor pieces. It will cost 10 Rupees per upgrade. So if you’ve tracked down and collected many pieces of armor, it’s best you have plenty of Rupees ready to cash out at one of the Great Fairy Fountains.
