How to Get Rid of Arcane Hunger in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

To remove the Arcane Hunger debuff, you must interact with Gale and offer him a magical item he can absorb. By entering your inventory and hovering over an uncommon or higher-grade item, you’ll find a message saying, “Gale can absorb this item’s magic, destroying it.”

Alternatively, if Gale has the item in his inventory, select it and choose “Consume” to gain approval with him and update his companion quest.

However, you can’t preemptively stop him from getting this debuff. Instead, you must wait until Gale warns you about the growing hunger inside him or until he receives the effect.

How to Find Magical Items

Magical items are any uncommon-grade or higher equipment with a “Gale can absorb this item’s magic” blurb in its description. Typically, this includes armor, weapons, and accessories. You can find them around the world, including on enemy corpses and inside treasure chests. You can even buy them from merchants if you’re in a pinch.

How to Permanently Cure Arcane Hunger in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

Eventually, as you progress through the main story and feed Gale around 3-4 magical items, he’ll tell you about his Arcane Hunger’s history and the Orb. Over time, the items will become less effective at satiating his hunger, and instead, you’ll shift your focus to either using his powers or finding an alternative to his predicament. Either way, following this last interaction, he’ll no longer gain the Arcane Hunger debuff and will stop requesting magical items from you.
