In Warhammer 40K: Darktide, each class has a signature weapon that tends to be identified with that role. For Veterans, there’s the tried and true Infantry Lasgun. For Ogryns, it’s the flesh-shredding Ripper Gun. With Zealots, you have the infamously powerful Thunder Hammer. For Psyker, there’s the staff, which most players aren’t aware there are several variants of. Here are all Psyker staff types in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.

Each Psyker Staff Variant in Darktide

In total, the Psyker has four staff types that begin appearing in the shop between trust levels 5 and 18. Each one serves a completely different purpose, meaning someone’s choice of staff will depend entirely on what their build is geared towards and how they want combat to flow. Here are each of the variants and what they do:

  • Equinox Mk III Trauma Force Staff – Unlocked at Trust Level 5
    • The Trauma Force Staff is both the first staff the Psyker unlocks and the easiest to use. Its primary fire sends out a bolt of energy similar to some of the later staffs, while its alternate fire can create an explosion on the ground. It’s a nice well-rounded staff, though its alt-fire can be a tad difficult to use effectively due to long cast times.
  • Nomanus Mk VI Surge Force Staff – Unlocked at Trust Level 10
    • Regardless of opinions on its usefulness, the Surge Force Staff is easily the most fun to use. Its primary sends out the same bolt as the Trauma Staff, though its alt-fire creates a lightning bolt towards a target that can bounce to nearby targets. This makes it an ideal horde-clearing staff, though you do sacrifice the ability to kill specials/elites due to its lower DPS.
  • Equinox Mk IV Voidstrike Force Staff – Unlocked at Trust Level 17
    • While running an incredibly simple idea, the Voidstrike Force Staff is arguably the best staff for killing specials and elites. Its primary fire is the same as the previous two staffs, though its alt-fire brings a much larger version of that same bolt that does more damage and gives off explosions which can be slightly nice for horde-clearing. While fitting into most builds nicely, you may lack in horde-clearing potential if that’s what you need this staff for.
  • Rifthaven Mk II Purgatus Force Staff – Unlocked at Trust Level 18
    • Last but certainly not least, the Purgatus Force Staff is both the most unique of the four staffs and the best for clearing hordes. Its primary fire switches things up with a small burst of fire that applies Soulblaze to targets and staggers them. Its alt-fire, on the other hand, creates a massive flame cloud that doesn’t stagger but still applies Soulblaze stacks. While worse than the Surge Force Staff at clearing specials and elites, the horde-clearing potential is incredible.

With each of these four staffs serving some form of different purpose, it’s best to pick the staff that best suits your playstyle and build. While we’d probably pick either the Surge or Purgatus staffs for sake of their fun factor, anything in this lineup should serve you well. Just try not to explode from your Peril counter in the process.
