The importance of the safety position in the NFL has continued to grow due to the explosion of the passing game. Safeties must be able to shift all over the field and change up their role on any given play. Safeties are split into two positions, free safety and strong safety. While free safeties usually are more known to play in the passing game while strong safeties get up in the box to stop the run, these lines have been blurred. With the greater prevalence of mobile QBs, the free safety sometimes needs to get involved in the running game. With HBs and TEs being split out wide with different shifts, a strong safety must be ready to go with them and cover them. Consider all of these skills and ratings when looking at this position. One factor for a safety can also be his ability to knock the ball loose with his hit power.
