Grand Theft Auto: Best Franchise Cheats

by Prima Games Staff

Grand Theft Auto V won’t just bring an amazing new world to explore when it arrives next week. It’ll also bring a number of new cheat codes you can use to take advantage of an easy boost.

Over the past few years, we’ve seen cheat codes on the rise in this series starting with the iconic Grand Theft Auto III and working their way through the popular Grand Theft Auto IV.  There are so many available it was hard to put together a list of the best ones out there!

Still, we managed to pick the ones that stood out the most.  Here are our favorite cheats over the years from select games in the franchise and a quick primer on how to execute them.

Grand Theft Auto III (PlayStation 2)

When entering these cheats, don’t pause the game. You’ll actually enter them during gameplay.

Blow Up Car- L2, R2, L1, R1, L2, R2, Triangle, Square, Circle, Triangle, L2, L1

Want to get rid of your ride in a hurry, or perhaps provide a quick distraction to escape from police pursuit? Enter this code and your ride will erupt in a ball of flame. NOTE: it’s probably best to get away from the blast radius before entering this code, unless you feel like dying quickly.

Spawn Tank- Circle, Circle, Circle, Circle, Circle, Circle, R1, L2, L1, Triangle, Circle, Triangle

Who needs a car when you can call upon the power of a tank? Riding in this bad boy, you can run over traffic and pedestrians with ease, or let loose with a few flying shots of ultimate destruction. Just remember, you won’t stay invincible forever. There’s only so much damage a tank can take…

Pedestrians All Hate You- Down, Up, Left, Up, X, R1, R2, L1, L2

Want a challenge? How about dealing with pedestrians that want to pick a fight with you at every turn? Enter this code and the world will literally turn against you, trying to yank you out of vehicles or pummel you on the ground. If you can, try to get the tank first before entering this code. It’s actually kind of funny watching them run towards you while you’re running over them.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PlayStation 2)

Again, codes must be entered during live gameplay to activate. You’ll receive a notification once it’s successful.

All Vehicles Invisible- Triangle, L1, Triangle, R2, Square, L1, L1

This doesn’t really have much of an effect on gameplay, but it’s funny watching people float around in invisible cars, only to get into invisible collisions with one another. NOTE: this code doesn’t work on motorcycles.

Fanny Magnet- Circle, X, L1, L1, R2, X, X, Circle, Triangle

Want to turn Tommy Vercetti into a chick magnet? With this code, you will, as the girls won’t be able to leave him alone. It might not entirely be a good thing if you’re in the middle of a police pursuit, but otherwise, it’s good to be loved.

Play As Lance Vance- Circle, L2, left, X, R1, L1, X, L1

Hey, considering how sharp this guy dresses, who wouldn’t want to play as Lance Vance? We just wish he had a dance function you could activate.

Slow Motion- Triangle, Up, Right, Down, Square, R2, R1

Want things to move in a dramatic fashion? Turn on this code and everything…slows…down…nicely. Try to blow up some cars to get the full effect.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PlayStation 2)

Again, enter codes during live gameplay.

All Pedestrians Are Elvis – L1, Circle, Triangle, L1, L1, Square, L2, Up, Down, Left

This pretty much says it all. Enter the code and everyone will be shakin’ like they’re in the Heartbreak Hotel.

Maximum Muscle- Triangle, Up, Up, Left, Right, Square, Circle, Left

Not in the mood to go to the virtual gym for a few hours? Pump yourself up immediately by entering this code. Don’t forget to flex.

Maximum Fat- Triangle, Up, Up, Left, Right, Square, Circle, Down

Maybe you’re in a chubby frame of mind? Put in this code and you’ll bulk up a completely different way. Don’t be surprised if you run slower as a result.

Bikini Themed Area- Up, Up, Down, Down, Square, circle, L1, R1, Triangle, Down

Hello, ladies. This says it all. Maybe make sure you’re muscular before you activate this one, yes?

Clowny Themed Area- Triangle, Triangle, L1, Square, Square, Circle, Square, Down, Circle

Not in the mood for bikini chicks? How about clowns? Putting this code in will turn your immediate area into a circus. No, these clowns won’t eat you.

Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)

For this chapter in the series, entering codes works differently. You pull out Niko’s phone and dial in certain numbers. If dialed correctly, it’ll take effect almost immediately. NOTE: activating certain codes will disable Achievements or Trophies in certain cases.

Get Weapons- 486-555-0150 and 486-555-0100

Want to load yourself up with some heavy firearms – or a missile launcher that’ll put down a helicopter in no time at all? These codes will certainly do the trick.

Raise Wanted Level- 267-555-0150

Want a real challenge? Stock up on weapons and then enter this code a few times to get to the highest wanted level. Every ounce of law enforcement will come at you, testing Niko’s resolve at every turn. Prepare for war.

Restore Health, Armor and Ammo- 482-555-0100

Maybe the battle is too much for you…? Not to worry. Put in this code and you’ll suit back up in full armor, while also getting a health boost and a full refill on weaponry. Reach out and do some damage.

Spawn a SuperGT- 227-555-0168

Maybe you aren’t in the mood for a fight – you’d rather go for a drive in one of the better cars in the game. With this cheat code, you’ll call upon a SuperGT to use at your disposal. You might want to lower the wanted level first to avoid destroying it, which you can do with the code 267-555-0100. Just a word of advice.
