Given Jack Black’s other voice acting work, and acting work in general, we have no doubt he’s one of the best possible picks to help bring this character to life.

Jack Black Will Voice Claptrap In Borderlands Movie

In an announcement from Lionsgate and reported on by outlets like The Hollywood Reporter, the voice actor chosen to bring Claptrap to life in the Borderlands movie was revealed as none other than Jack Black.

In the past, Jack Black has done voice acting for a number of iconic properties from Po in Kung Fu Panda to video game characters like Eddie Riggs in Brutal Legend and Harm’ny Lightbeard in Broken Age.

Jack Black has even had his voice in things you might not even be aware of. For example, he made an appearance in Metalocalpyse as his Brutal Legend character Eddie — that show was amazing by the way, you should definitely check it out.

And obviously, a lot of people will know Jack Black from his acting career. Recently, he was in the reboot of Jumanji, he was also in School of Rock, Tropic Thunder, Nacho Libre, The Polka King, Goosebumps, and our personal favorite, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.

With the Borderlands movie, Jack Black joins other big name cast members including Jamie Lee Curtis who’ll play Dr. Patricia Tannis, Cate Blanchett as Lilith, and Kevin Hart as Roland.

The movie is being directed by Eli Roth with Randy Pitchford as an executive producer along with Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnic. The script is being written by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl), who’s also contributing his writing skills to the upcoming HBO adaptation of The Last of Us.

It’s clear based on the Jack Black casting news that the Borderlands film will have some CGI in it as Claptrap’s cute little robot self will need to be added as it interacts with other characters.

We’re curious to see what Claptrap will look like once a trailer for Borderlands is released. We’re also curious to hear what you think about Jack Black being chosen to voice Claptrap in the Borderlands movie.
