Yooka-Laylee – How to Help Blasto the Cannon

Find out how to help Blasto the cannon get his voice back in Yooka-Laylee.

Once of the first side characters you run into in Yooka-Laylee is the duo’s friend, Blasto the cannon. Unfortunately, he seems to have swallowed something that has him losing his voice, and he needs your help to get it out. You won’t be able to help Blasto right off the bat, because helping him requires a specific power that you don’t have access to just yet. In this article we’ll teach you everything you need to know to help Blasto the cannon in Yooka-Laylee.

Get the Buddy Slam Power

The first thing you need to do to help Blasto is acquire the Buddy Slam move from Trowzer in Tribalstack Tropics. You’ll need at least 30 Quills to get this power, though, so be sure to pick up any Quills that you spot lying around. Once you have the 30 Quills you need, make your way through Tribalstack Tropics and up the ramp that leads to the top of the temple where Trowzer has set up shop. You’ll be able to purchase the Buddy Slam power from him for 30 Quills, and for the purpose of this guide, we’d suggest grabbing it first.

Once you have the Buddy Slam move, make your way back out of Tribalstack Tropics and into Hivory Towers. From here, backtrack through the main hub and out into Shipwreck Creek, where you start the game. Blasto the cannon can be found up an incline in the back of the area. Talk to him to learn about the item caught in his throat.

Now, climb onto Blasto’s back and activate the Buddy Slam by jumping and then pressing Left Trigger on your Xbox controller (or L2 on Ps4). This will cause Yooka and Laylee to slam into Blasto, causing him to expel a Pagie out into the air. He’ll thank you for helping him, and then you can claim the Pagie by jumping into it.

This is a really easy way to obtain a Pagie in Yooka-Laylee, and it also gives you a good idea of what to expect out of other puzzles in the game. You can also check out our guide on how to free the Pagie from the cage in Hivory Towers. Alternatively, you can return to our Yooka-Laylee guide for more in-depth information, help, and tips.
