The Blood Plague is a new feature introduced in State of Decay 2 that comes from Plague Zombies, the ones that have glowing red eyes. Plague Zombies are faster and stronger than their yellow-eyed counterparts, which makes the Plague Zombies that much more dangerous. You’ll want to do everything you can to prevent the Blood Plague at all costs.

If you or another survivor takes damage from Plague Zombies in State of Decay 2, an infection gauge will appear (separate from the health gauge), indicating the level of infection in the body and how much time the victim has left. Once it fills up, the victim will turn into a full-fledged Plague Zombie.

How to Cure Blood Plague

If a survivor becomes infected with the Blood Plague in State of Decay 2, you must try to cure them as quickly as possible. To do so, you will need to concoct a cure for the Blood Plague using infected tissue Samples.

During the tutorial phase of the game, you will establish your first home base in State of Decay 2. One of the facilities you can add to your home base is the Infirmary, which is where you will go to create cures and treat infections like the Blood Plague.

In order to cure the Blood Plague in State of Decay 2, you must first create a cure by collecting five Plague Samples from Plague Zombies. During the tutorial, you will receive four Plague Samples, but use them only when you really need to. New ones are difficult to find in the early stages of the game. In the meantime, use the infirmary (discussed in the tutorial) to slow the infection.

Where to Find Plague Samples

  • Plague Samples are a scarce resource in State of Decay 2. Your best bet for finding Plague Samples is by searching in medical supply areas, which are indicated by a health icon on the map.
  • Plague Samples can also be found on plague-infected zombies covered in blood near Plague Hearts or around the base during horde attacks, so be sure to search these areas while out scavenging.
  • Alternatively, you can also collect Plague Samples after defeating an actual Plague Zombie, but this is a much more dangerous endeavor.

Once you have collected enough Plague Samples, return to the Infirmary in your home base and create a Plague Cure Vial. If you have brought an infected survivor to the Infirmary, interact with the survivor and press the prompt to administer the Blood Plague cure.

If you cannot collect enough Plague Samples to create a Blood Plague cure, then the only other alternatives are to either euthanize the infected victim or exile them from your base camp. We recommend putting them down, as you can at least salvage whatever gear they may have had on them.

Knowing how to cure the Blood Plague in State of Decay 2 is just as important as knowing how to build and upgrade your home base. Be sure to check out our State of Decay 2 game hub for more survival tips and guides.
